This page contains notes about my Personal short-term goals - which are outcomes I want to achieve within the next few days to few months. They help turn larger ambitions into things I can work toward now.

Current goals

Goal Target date Why it matters Next step
Improve my grade in biology November 2026 I want to improve my understanding of biology and finish the semester with a strong grade. Review my last exam and identify the topics I had trouble with.
Run a 5K without stopping October 2026 I want to improve my endurance and overall fitness. Follow my running plan three times each week.
Learn the basics of Python December 2026 I want to learn more about programming and see whether computer science interests me. Complete the introductory Python course I started.

This month's priorities

The goals I especially want to make progress on this month are:

  1. Improve my biology grade.
  2. Exercise consistently.

Recently completed goals

Goal Completed What I learned
Organize my desk and study area August 2026 It is easier to start homework when my desk is already clear.
Read a book during summer vacation August 2026 Reading for a short time every evening worked better than trying to read for several hours at once.
Update my résumé July 2026 Keeping a list of activities and accomplishments makes updating my résumé much easier.

Breaking down a goal

A goal becomes easier to work toward when I identify specific actions I can take.

Example goal: Run a 5K without stopping

  1. Find a beginner 5K training plan.
  2. Choose three days each week for running.
  3. Record the distance I can currently run.
  4. Gradually increase my running time.
  5. Register for a local 5K.
  6. Complete the race.

The goal is the outcome I want to achieve. The items above are tasks that help me achieve it.

Questions to ask when setting a goal

  • What specifically do I want to accomplish?
  • Why is this important to me?
  • How will I know when I have accomplished it?
  • When would I like to accomplish it?
  • What is the next action I can take?
  • Is the goal challenging but realistic?
  • Does it support one of my Long-term goals?
